“True Blue” is the subject of this month’s S&SPC Challenge… which is convenient, because blue also happens to be the Pantone Color of the year.

… though they call it “Classic Blue.”

Since this hue will likely dominate the worlds of fashion, design, and advertising in the year ahead, now is the perfect time to create some stock photos that feature Classic Blue.

But don’t stop with this specific shade. This month’s Snap & Sell Photo Club Photo Challenge is about photographing all shades of blue.

Paying attention to color is a fun way to improve your photography by being more intentional. It’s also a really fun photographic exercise.

To get your creative juices flowing, here are five ideas for photographing the color blue this month:

  1. Winter Vibes. If you live in a snowy place, you’ve got the perfect backdrop to create some cool blue images. Bundle up and head outside with your camera!
  2. Contrasting Colors. Blue pairs nicely with warmer colors such as red, orange, or yellow. The contrast between these colors will really grab your viewer’s attention.1. Dress-Up. Try putting together a photo shoot with some fun blue outfits or accessories and find a friend or family member who is willing to model.
    2. Water & Sky. It’s tough to beat the visual appeal of a bright blue sky or perfect reflection. Both can provide an excellent backdrop for text or graphics, making them ideal for stock photography.3. Twilight. Speaking of skies, twilight is the perfect time to capture an amazing blue hue along with some sparking city lights. Just be sure to bring your tripod for shots like this!

I hope this list gives you some great ideas for getting out and creating your own blue-themed stock photos!
